Food is the thing we obtain from plant or animal sources. It may include various food, i.e., vegetables, fruits, grains, and many more. There are five food groups. There lies a significant difference between food and diet. Diet is the sum of all the things we eat from any of the food groups. We obtain nutrients from all the diets we consume. And that is the cause of our nutrition and the nutrition our body needs for proper growth.

Composition of food:

The food we obtain from either source, i.e., plants or animals, contains some ingredients. These are necessary for proper body functioning and our survival. Following is the list of some macro or micro-nutrients. 

  • Protein
  • Fat
  • Lipid
  • Vitamins
  • Mineral
  • Carbohydrate 

The macro-nutrients, i.e., carbohydrates, proteins, fat, and lipid, are required for our body for a significant amount, while other micronutrients, including vitamins, and minerals aren’t necessary for our body in large amounts, although essential for our body. 

Five food groups contain all these nutrients. These groups include the fruit group, vegetable group, milk group, grains, and meat & proteins group.

Nutritional deficiency:

Nutritional deficiency at different ages leads to all diseases. If we take to choose the right and balanced food for our diet, we will not suffer from any disease. On the other hand, excess of things is also not good for our body. Excess of everything is bad, in the same way, if we will consume less or excess of every nutrient, our body will lead to serious problems and the root cause of all diseases is related to nutrients we take. 

  • Kwashiorkor, marasmus, rickets at childhood age
  • Osteoporosis (common in women), scurvy, beriberi, night blindness
  • Arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, biotin deficiency, diabetes, sugar, etc.

These are some common diseases we can hear from every third person suffering from these diseases. Under-developing countries are specially suffering from all these diseases at a high rate. USDA has already introduced many diet guidelines after taking surveys from all over the world from different areas and including different aspects.
